Golden Hour Landscape Studio designs places that foster curiosity and renewed connections to our living, green, surprising world.

Rafael Tiffany holds a Master's of Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley and a certificate in horticulture from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He previously designed residential and public landscapes with award-winning firm Lutsko Associates before founding an independent practice and freelancing for established designers. While at Berkeley he was recipient of a Mellon grant for multidisciplinary creative research in Mexico City.

Golden Hour began as a long ramble in the humid woods of Pennsylvania, age 8 or 9,  drawn by something unnameable, and later emerged, blinking, on a sunny oak-studded hillside in California. My fascination with plants and the atmospheres and feelings they create grew from a life coming up on both coasts with an epically green-thumbed mom. Also formative was an era working in arts administration and horticulture in New York City; at public gardens including the High Line, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Battery Park, landscape design met civic life and daily conversations with visitors and volunteers were part of the education. Ongoing work in community-based ecological restoration in CA pulls this thread into the present. Golden Hour is a queer-led business in the traditional lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone.
